It all boils down to heat. That’s probably not a surprise to you. But if you heat it too much, your butter will fully melt and become liquid. That may not be ideal for all your recipes. So how can you heat your butter without melting it entirely? It’s actually quite simple. All you need is a glass and some hot water.

The Method
Australian chef David Chilcott shared a cool trick on his YouTube channel. If you have cold butter and need it to soften quickly, all you need is a glass and hot water. Fill the glass with hot water and let it sit for a minute or two. Then pour out the water and place the warm glass upside down over the butter. The heat from the glass will warm up the air around the butter, making it soft without melting it completely. Wait for about two minutes, and your butter will be ready to use in baking the most delicious pastries. It’s a quick and easy way to soften butter if you forgot to take it out of the fridge.
