Photographs Of Magnificent And Rare Birds : Tim Flach, a photographer, shares his life with three goldfish and two Burmese cats named Hunt and Blue – his furry friends often accompany him during photo sessions though they might prefer devouring some of the wildlife he photographs instead of accompanying him!
1. The Grey Crowned Crane
The Grey Crowned Crane of Southern and Eastern Africa is well known for its aggressive behavior; capable of taking out eyes with one peck. When one pecked at my camera and it appeared ready to attack me, I quickly left that spot!
2. Inca Tern
The Peruvian Inca Tern is famed for its distinctive moustache, which serves as an indicator of its health. The more extended their moustache is, the deeper its resistant framework becomes and thus making them more appealing as partners in mating rituals – making this feathered creature my ideal representative from winged animal world.
3. The Toco Toucan
The Toco Toucan has one of the most impressive bills of any bird relative to its body size, serving to regulate how much heat is released – similar to an elephant’s ears – as well as maintain body temperature by hiding their bill under their wings during rest periods.
4. Andean Cock Of The Rock
When breeding, Andean Cock-of-the-rock males compete against one another through confrontation displays known as “confrontation displays”, whereby males display various forms of dancing which become more disordered when females arrive on scene.

This Silver-Laced rooster, symbolic of Polish nobleman from medieval times in Polish art and literature, can be seen at many shows throughout Poland today – I caught one at last week’s Federation Championship Poultry Show.

8. Egyptian Vulture
This small species of vulture boasts an estimated global population of 15,000 individuals and features a white head and neck with grey body; dark grey wings; and a black tail tipped with white. As a scavenger, this bird typically feeds on animal remains such as animal remains, eggs and bones, vegetation and fruit but may also find sustenance from vegetation or fruit sources such as trees or even cliffs to nest – especially as its nesting sites often consist of both.
Unfortunately, Egyptian Vultures are now at risk due to hunting, habitat loss, poisoning, egg collecting and pesticide usage. Conservation efforts have been implemented in an attempt to safeguard this species as an integral component of ecosystem services such as clearing up carrion from dead animals while contributing to food chain sustainability.

Blue Tits can be found throughout the U.K. at bird feeders and have become an increasingly frequent sight at feeders there. According to Mayan mythology, the King vulture served as an intermediary between heaven and Earth – contrary to popular belief – whereas most vultures can only be found in dry environments like Africa. Instead, this species resides within South America’s tropical forests as well as Mexico.
11. Longtail Broadbill
This bird species native to Himalayas and South East Asia features long plume. It resembles that of a fighter pilot; however, many people see similarities with Elvis Presley due to its black helmet-like crown and blue patch on its head.
12. Victoria Crowned Pigeon
The Victoria Crowned Pigeon is one of the most visible species of pigeon alive today, frequently reported sightings being reported from New Guinea. Had Dodo not become extinct, it would have been one of only two birds within its family that dwarfed VCP in terms of size.
13. Shoebill
This impressive wading bird, native to East Africa and best known for its shoe-shaped bill, stands five feet tall and can weigh eight kilograms. With long legs, wide wingspan, and blue-gray eyes azure eyes it makes an eye-catching sight when disturbed by humans or disturbed itself in wetlands or swamps – although typically only seen by chance!
Diet: Mainly made up of fish and invertebrates which they hunt using their powerful bill. Witnessing one in its natural environment is truly breathtaking.
14. Black Jacobin Pigeon
The European name for this avian species derives from its feathery head covering, which resembles that worn by Jacobin monks. Some observers may perceive this bird to be wearing a feathery robe!
15. Major Mitchell
Cockatoos can be identified easily by their beautiful crest on their heads, distinguishing them from other parrots. Yet many birds share life expectancies comparable to humans – including Cockatoos!
16. Vultrurine Guineafowl Hen
Vultrurine Guineafowl Hens Female Vulturine Guineafowls can lay up to 40 eggs annually, which may explain why this species is not endangered. These birds prefer running rather than flying when living in semi-desert environments of East Africa.
17. The Nicobar Pigeon
The Nicobar Pigeon, closely related to its Dodo relative, has become endangered as hunters hunt them for food or use its gizzard stones to produce jewelry. Migrating between its native habitat of India’s Nicobar Islands and Southeast Asian coastal areas.
18. Silver Laced Polish Chicken
The Silver Laced Polish Chicken is an attractive breed of poultry that stands out from other varieties thanks to its striking white head crest. Although small in stature and structure, this bird boasts strong qualities which enable it to lay more eggs than its counterparts while remaining friendly towards humans.
They can withstand cold conditions and are ideal for both households and farms. Their silvery feathers make an incredible sight to behold!
19. The Philippine Eagle
On a journey around the mountains of the Philippines, I spent several days searching for this bird of prey before finally photographing it at a rescue center.
The Philippine Eagle is widely revered for having one of the widest wingspan among all species of raptors – approximately 2 meters! Only found on Philippine islands, its widespread fame and population status make it worthy of being chosen as national bird of this island nation.
IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) has classified it as Critically Endangered.
20. The Gouldian Finch
From my point of view, Australia’s Gouldian finch is one of the most beautiful birds around and it was my pleasure to experience having one so close – sometimes too close as it preferred resting its wings on my head instead of remaining on its stand!
21. Northern Red Cardinal
Northern Red Cardinal The northern red cardinal is an extraordinary singer, capable of performing over a dozen distinct songs. One bird had an especially animated and boisterous nature – almost as though they had come straight out of Angry Birds!

One of the oldest species of pigeons on earth, Jacobins can be found in India but their introduction into Europe in the 1500s marked their transformation into stylish show birds we see today.
23. Bearded Tit
The bearded tit is an unusual British songbird in that it spends its entire life cycle nestled within a reed bed habitat. Unfortunately, only 600 breeding pairs exist due to habitat restrictions; their numbers have been estimated at 600 breeding pairs total in Britain. A group of these birds is known as a ‘banditry”.

Spotting an African Vulture flying above its plains with its stunning hooded head and powerful wings is truly mesmerising; protecting it is essential to maintaining the health of Africa’s ecosystems.
25. Red Splash Jacobin Pigeon
Red Splash Jacobin Pigeon The Jacobin pigeon is highly esteemed and kept as pets by such notable people as Charles Darwin and Queen Victoria. It earned its name due to the large plume of feathers which decorates its head.
