The most common type of vaso-occlusive condition is called Raynaud’s syndrome, which was titled after the French medical doctor Jean-Athanase Raynaud. This affliction causes a partial or total hindrance of blood flow to the hands and feet, causing coldness and tingling which can be unpleasant and prevent the functioning of these body parts.

Generally, Raynaud’s begins as a short-term episode that persists for a few days. Then, the condition can spread to other areas of the body, such as the face, forearms, lower legs, and genitalia. If not treated, Raynaud’s can result in permanent damage to delicate parts of the body, including the heart, eyes, and kidneys.
