Back in 1886, a pharmacist named John Pemberton created Coca-Cola. It was originally based on an alcoholic beverage called Vin Mariani. Pemberton developed his own cola recipe, which he called Pemberton’s French Wine Coca. However, when alcohol became prohibited in Atlanta, where Pemberton lived, he replaced the wine with sugar syrup and named it Coca-Cola.
