Why You Feel Tired After Waking Up In The Morning

No matter what time you go to bed, you still feel tired.

Are you often tired? Does coffee not help you stay awake? Well, it may not be due to stress or a bad night’s sleep. There are different reasons why you might feel tired in the morning. Read on to find out more.

1. Not Drinking Enough Water

One reason for feeling tired is not drinking enough water. When you don’t drink plenty of water, your blood pressure drops and your brain receives less oxygen. This lack of oxygen can make you feel a bit lightheaded. So, try to drink water when you wake up.

2. Thyroid Issues

Your thyroid gland produces hormones that regulate feelings of hunger and fatigue. When your thyroid is not working properly, you will feel tired more often. If this happens, it’s a good idea to visit your doctor and have it checked.

3. Stress

Stress is a major cause of mental and physical problems. Feeling tired could be a result of stress. If you often feel stressed and tired because of it, you should find ways to reduce stress. If you’re not sure how, consult a medical professional for advice.

4. Alcohol

Alcohol may help you fall asleep faster, but it doesn’t improve the quality of your sleep. It actually reduces the quality, leaving you tired when you wake up. If you drink alcohol several times a week, consider reducing your intake to improve your sleep quality.

5. Sleep apnea

If you feel extremely tired upon waking up, you might have sleep apnea. This sleep-related breathing disorder causes brief pauses in breathing during sleep, lasting about ten seconds each time. These pauses prevent you from reaching the deep sleep stage, leading to fatigue upon waking. You may not realize it yourself, but your partner could help you determine if this is the case. If you suspect sleep apnea, contact your doctor right away.

6. Daytime naps

Taking naps during the day can make you feel tired when you wake up, especially if you sleep for more than thirty minutes. Longer naps can put you into REM sleep. Waking up from REM sleep leaves you more tired compared to waking up from a short ten-minute nap.
